Hello There,
I am building a 225 for my son's '64 Valiant and in my research I find talk of installing larger valves in the head. Supposedly one can shorten the valve stem a substatial amount and cut new grooves in it for the keepers. It is my understanding that a valve stem is of a hardened material especially the tip. Is this procedure still possible or are their some different valves that are available?
Thanks, Deep Six '64 Sub

There are a few different options for large valves in the slant head. I would suggest you go to www.slantsix.org and www.slantsix.com and use the search function for valves, to see the discussions.

The big block Mopar exhaust valves can be swaped into the SL6. These have the same .375 stem size but are .100 longer and use the taller BB valve spring, this helps if you want to use a higher lift cam.
