John, If we are talking about Chrysler flathead sixes, you can do that. One of the first projects the boss gave me when I started work in a gas station in 64, was to put a 59 six in a 38 pickup. The 38 came off a Diary farm in Gilroy. There were places were I had to dig in 3-4 inches of caked on mud to get to the bolt. There weren't any complications at all that I can remember.

Thank's Larry, that's what I thought and told him.

I had a 37 Dodge in 1959 & it ran great. Most of those (Chrysler Corp) flathead sixes were about the same outside.

Mine may have had a later engine too.

Happy trails. \:\)

Been there. The block is 2 inches longer. You will need to move the radiator forward, and fabricate new front motor mounts. there will also be zero clearance at the firewall, and you may have to beat on the firewall a bit to make sure the engine doesn't actually rub.

You will end up with more weight, forward by 2 inches from original which can make a small difference in braking, steering, and handling.

If the 265 is free, and your time is "free" why not? But if it's for horsepower, just make the 217 into a 230, and up the C.R. and you'll have the same horsepower.
