It's been a long time since I last visited this forum. I have a 79 Caprice with a 250 and am thinking of upgrading to a better carb. So my question is, if I buy the 1 bbl to 2 bbl adapter from Tom Langdon's website will I be able to use a holley or autolite 2 bbl carb or only the H/W carb he sells in his website? I've searched the forums, but haven't found an answer.

With any adapter that tries to add more barrels you have the same problem, you still only have a hole meant for fewer barrels. I read many good things about Tom Langdons adapter and the Holley/Weber on it. It maybe that the combination maximizes what you can get through that one barrel hole. If the Autolite and Holley you speak of are larger you may see minimal gains and more than likely have some problems. If your looking for more power get a four barrel manifold and put a two barrel adapter put on it.

Which is better, a single four barrel carb or two H/W carbs? That way I can use only 2 barrels on normal driving and have 4 when stepping on the gas? would that be possible? I know a 4 bbl with vaccum secondaries would be much easier to deal with, but multiple carbs look better.
Another question. Can compression in my 250 be raised to 10:1 without installing the 194 head? (since in my country I probably wouldnt be able to find such a head without a lot of difficulty) If so, how?

Yes but not with a dished 250 piston. you would need a flat top piston. either a custom 250 piston Or you can go with a 307 piston. which would bring you around 9.5-1 and then you could mill the head for the rest. But at 10-1 you wouldn't be on the cheap 87 octange fuel you would need at the very least 93. Two of the holley/weber type carbs that Tom Langdon sells could probley give you better MPGs over a single 4b seeing that the bores are smaller. But a small 4b Mite be as good?? This all would depend on how heavy your right foot is not matter what set-up you go with.

When using the 307 pistons, do you use the stock 250 rods or is it necessary to buy any other rods? Basically the question is do you only change the pistons or do you need to buy different rods as well? How much would the head need to be milled to achieve the 10:1 compression ratio?
Im thinking about using LPG with this car cause right now a gallon of gas costs $3.86 and $4.06 for premium, while LPG costs around $2.55 so compression ratio is not really a problem with respect to which type of gas I have to use. This would be my daily driver so gas mileage does matter a bit.
