Hi guys, I've been an Inliner for a number of years, buta recent business has kept me inactive for most of those. I am hoping to resume construction soon on my project. I am re-creating an early 70's H/MP drag car, but maintaining streetability. My car is a '57 Chevy 210 2 Dr. sedan, using a Muncie 4 speed and a 3.70 posi rear end ratio. The engine I want to use is a late 292, and although the car is currently equipped with a 235 and a Saginaw 4 speed, I do have a '57 V-8 bellhousing. I know this will take care of the rear engine mounts, but, I'm looking for some front mounts. At this time, I have extremely limited fabrication abilities. Does anyone know of commercially available mounts for this combination? The car has a regular frame, not a seamless one. If someone has experience with mounting a 292 i8n a '55 to'57 Chevy, (in the stock location)please let me know what you did for the front mounts. I tyhank you in advance for you help.

I don't know of an exact setup, but you may be able to modify these V8 sidemounts that Chassis Engineering sells http://www.chassisengineeringinc.com/page32.html

Gearhead, Thanks for your prompt reply. I am astonished that this combination remains such a mystery in this club!

I know Tom Langdon makes mounts for 54 and earlier chevys. Maybe he has a solution for your problem too?

Dear 63 ChevyII, I have been in touch with Tom. He doesn't have anything to help. Although it's been a couple of years since I talked to him, he was pretty much against the idea. He wanted me to sell the '57 and start with an earlier car because putting in the 292 would ruin the resale value of the car. He may be right, but, I have wanted a hot six in a '55 -'57 chevy since I graduated from high school in '66! That's pretty ironic since I bought my 292 from him at the Indianapolis swap meet about ten years ago!

Dear Z33, I have been looking at the Speedway mounts for some time. I was hoping to get a response from someone who had used those or similar mounts successfully, as at the moment, I am on a very restricted budget (read unemployed!), and I can't afford to experiment too many times. As for those who would disagree with my engine choice, I agree with you. I'm not building this car for someone else, and, I really don't care how they do it in California

I have a 292 in my '55 Bel Air. I made my own front mounts, they bolt onto the front of the block on each side, & use a donut thru the crossmember. Made my own rear mounts too, using a truck bellhs'g. & a donut on ea. side, there are some pics of it in my link below. Notched the crossmember for pan clearance, cut a section from the oil pan for steering clearance, & added onto the back of the pan to get some capacity back. Ended up with a 6 qt. pan, 7 w/filter. Made my own oil pump pick up tube to match the pan. Used a remote filter to make front mount clearance. Modified the rad. support top brace for fan clearance. Ground off some of the cyl. head rear casting to give enough clearance to slide a cardboard piece between it & the firewall to check for running clearance. Run a MY6 O.D. 4 sp. trans. with a rear mount I made. Have 3.08 axle gears & routinely get 21.5 MPG on highway trips. Did this about 4 yrs. ago & am extremely happy with it. It's my daily driver & it gets 12 to 15K. miles/yr. Doug
