I have read most of the posts on this web site, alot of good information here, but now I know less now then I thought I did before(ignorance is bliss!!)
Thanks for any information you can pass on.

Back in the mid 1970s Street Rodder Magazine had 5 or six magazine articles on early Chevy six engines. Also in the June 1955 copy of Hot Rod Magaine had a good story 235-261 engines.

I've heard that there is a new book in the works by a long time Inliner, but still waiting. As of now only books available for 235s are reprints of 50s books by Calif Bill Fisher and others. Many how to books on other engines are great to have for reference like, Leo's "Chevrolet Inline Six-Cyliner, Power Manual". I also have a copy of HP Books, "How to build your Small Block Chevy". Much of the info contained in these books also pertain to all motor, I refer to them often. If you are a card carring Inline member, you can write to any one of several "Tech Advisors" for any questions you have. These tech advisors are listed in the Club's newsletter, "the 12 Port News".

there's also a book by Huntington and one by California Bill sold at numerous places (including Amazon). They are reprints from circa 1953 so they deal with 216s, but a lot of the info is transferable.

I have a couple of OLD, small, 6 cyl. books by Frank McGurk that goes up to the 235/261 six.
Very basic but interresting. I will not let them go, but could be talked into photo copies of them.

Any chance of a copy of the 235/261 stuff.

There is very little info that found its way out here.

G'day Ed,

Guess I'm in the same situation as Stovebolt Kid - information on these engines is a bit sparse "down under"!

I would appreciate a copy as well.

Thanks,

Pete

Wow , a bigger response than I thought I would get. I have looked all over the books and can find no copyright information at all. So I am going to check with a local print shop to see how close they could reproduce the two books. If the cost is not too much I may ask for just enough to cover having about 30 of them printed. ??? Again, they are rather small, one only 16 pages and the other has 45 pages. Both books measure 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" and the author is none other than the late "Frank McGurk".
I bought these books in 1963, so they do show some wear and tear.
One is titled " Reworking the Chevrolet and GMC Engines For Maximum Performance and Efficiency" and covers mid 1940's to the 1953 235.
The other is like a supplement to this book and is titled "Reworking The Late Model Chevrolet And Corvette Engine". It covers mostly the 1953-1956 six cylinders, 235/261 only.

Those interrested just click the small envelope above and send me an e-mail with your NAME and ADDRESS and I will put you on my list.

Thanks to all,
Old Fart Ed

Photocopies of those two McGurk pamphlets and a Dec. '54 Car Craft article are being sold by someone on Ebay regularly. $16 I think.

The Fisher and Huntington books that are still being printed are mostly useless for the later sixes. They are good to read, but be carefull what you use. You can't mill the later heads as much as you can the earlier ones, for example.
