Does anyone have Information on Canadian 235's from a 53 chev belair std transmission. My GM repair manual says this engine should be a dipper/splash oil system. But it is actually a full lubrication system as found on the 53 powerglides and later. The engine is stamped 753435 (just above dipstick). This same engine stamp is found on the firewall serial# plate. The reason I ask is I just got the engine running after a rebuild, and blew the main bearings within 30 minutes of running. I havent gotten the engine fully apart yet, but think possibly the shimms or bearing that were ordered originally would have been for the american engine and do not fit properly for mine. The parts book at the canadian part store I use are american distributers. Any info on this engine would help.

Did the engine have oil pressure when it was runnng?---Oil pump failure?---Plugged oil passage?---Did you prime the oil pump and oil passages by using a electric drill to turn the pump?---Bearing fitted to tight?---Correct bearing size?---I don't think it is a engine difference between Canada and U.S.---Wrong oil pump?---Let us know what happened when you open it up. Also using the correct information(factory shop manual)for the engine you are working on.Canadian Chevy std.shift cars may have used the Powerglide engine and not the babbit pounder we got in the U.S.----Canadian Pontiacs got the 261 Jobmaster six cylinder engine in cars and we in the (U.S.) only got it in large trucks. Dear Red;
In 'late' l953 there were no more dipper engines and some stick shift cars had the 'full pressure' ones. These may have been 54 models.
The failure is "another movie". The engine builder would only know the engine, not the country or car.
Good luck, John M., #3370
