I was at a swap meet and a older gentleman told me that I could replace my six bolt hub on the front of my 1939 Chevy JC 1/2 ton with a five stud hub from a Chevy car. He did not know what year of car would work. Is this true? If so what hub will work? I am replacing the rear end with a 51 Chevy car to get better highway gears and it has a five bolt pattern, I would like the bolt patterns to match.

I haven't done it, but I would assume he means the 49-54 car.
Since you are using a '51 rearend, which has the better brakes, I would look for the front brakes from a 51-54 car. Get the entire setup. You'll probably have to modify the bolt pattern on the backing plate to match the '39 spindle, but I'm betting it will work. Again, I haven't done it and don't know anyone who has. Hopefully, someone will chime in who has...
