I was just putting in my mechanical lifters in my 235 and noticed one was different from the others. There is a hole straight down from the top where the rod sits and two holes on the side. The other are all solid. Is this one from a 216 that possibly got switched at some previous rebuild? This lifter is badly worn and pitted on the cam side, the other are in perfect shape. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to change this one so it doesn't wear the cam, and so oil doesn't leak right through. Or is this a special lifter with a special purpose?

Dear Bill;

Sounds worn out to me, so replace it. You can use one of the others to 'match up" etc.

It was probably an 'aftermarket'item & this is why there is a difference.

Now you should check one more thing: Place a straight edge across the lifter where it touches the cam. New are convex,used flat and no good are concave.

Good luck, John M......

Almost sounds as if someone threw a hydraulic lifter in there with the solids. I had the same problem with my 235, just reversed. The previous owner put two solids in with the hydraulics. Cam and lifters were all trashed, all new stuff going in this coming week. I had hard time finding new hydraulic lifters, finally got 'em at Carquest. Sealed power # HT761. They can probably get ya the solids also. AZ, and Advance were no help. Remember to check your pushrods, so they're not bent.
