I have a 235 out of a '55 3100 truck in my roadster project. My question is, are the cam bearing sizes the same as the older motors? I.E., I have a new McGurk 3/4 cam for a 216 chevy, that I would like to run in this motor, will it fit? TIA...

dawg, Probably not, as the journals changed diameters in 1954. Parts catalog page for cam bearings

It started with the Powerglide 235's and later ones, the non-Powerglide 235's still had the 216 size cam bearings. The GMC's also use the same cam bearings as the 216 and early 235.

So, I either have to find some cam bearings in somebody's inventory that have the correct I.D. and O.D., or whittle some out on a lathe? What would you use, if you had to make some?...

In the old days, I've been told, they simply pressed the early, smaller bearings into the larger late bearings and was done with it. I personally would check first but it may just be the ticket!
