have my rebult 250 almost ready to fire up. Question is how to prime the engine first. Is there a way to drive the oil pump to circulate the oil before initial start up? I know the small bock v8's have a tool to prime them but cant find anything on the 250? Thanks,Mac

I use a spare distrib (for me a junkyard distrib is cheaper than a fancy tool), pull the drive gear off, and then attach a drill motor to the top.

The 6's, at least mine, are more prone to suck air than other engines so definitely prime it on startup. Usually you can get 40-60psi just on the drill motor, a good check on things before you start it up.

X2,
I use an old distributer & cut off the part where the cap attaches to.

I have a Shur-Flow 12 volt fluid transfer pump. Powers off the batt, takes fresh oil from a bucket, output goes into the return fitting of the oil filter. Turn it on, wait for the pump to slow to indicate pressure, then crank the engine a few times to expose all ports.
