Iv'e tried to look up the number I found on this block but can't find it. Please help!! The number I got off the block just behind the dipstick on the machined surface is: 10W147918
This engine is in a 70 Nova but I don't think it came in it.

You are looking for a cast number on the block, not a stamped number.

Yes this is a stamped number on the machined surface next to the dip stick. I'll go up and look for the cast number. John

Stamped numbers usually begin with a Alphabetical prefix indicating plant of manufacture and production date, check here , http://www.nastyz28.com/chevy-engine-code-stampings.php
