Howdy 50! I'm well familiar with your problem, same one everybody whos done the swap runs into. There's several ways out, two of them are probably up on eBay right now, there's a adapter plate for $50 or so, or you can buy a short shaft conversion pump, which you might even find local besides eBay, the shorty pump is usually $50-75. You can also modify a 235 pump yourself, but it does take a bit of doing. You also need a pulley for a early 70's 350. Works best with a fresh pump too! So unless you got a REAL cheap rebuilt or new pump, you are probably best off with the adapter or shorty. I can tell you how to modify the 235 if you decide to go that route. Coupe38

A Ford 292 pulley will fit also. I modified my own pump buy buying a rebuilt unit from Napa and shortening it by pressing the hub down and cutting off the excess shaft. It's best to practice on your old pump first, since you only get one shot at it unless you have a bearing splitter to press the hub back the other way. It only takes a couple tons to move the hub on the shaft so you should be able to do it with a bottle jack against the frame of a truck and a deep socket or length of pipe to fit over the shaft if you don't have a real press. Mine cost me $30, I ate the core charge of $5.

Dear 50;

If you modify, be carefull not to move the impeler away from the seal. Other wise that mod works just fine. If it gets moved, just tap the shaft back forward with a hammer.

That's all they do to make the "shorty".

Good luck, John M.........
