I have a rebuilt 292 short block that I am assembling the rest of the parts to, head and such. Not real familiar with them and have a simple question. There are two 3/8" brass plugs in the block; one is on the left just above the oil pan flange and just forward of the bell housing. The other is on the right just under the center of the rearmost lifter cover (ahead of the 1/4" plug for the oil sender). They both seem to be in the water jacket. What are they for? Can they be used or are they supposed to be used for something in particular?

Sodell-

The one on the left is a drain for the cooling system. I'm not sure of the other, since my engine doesn't have one.
