I can't answer your question, sorry. I looked in my truck repair Chilton's but did not find any capacity information. Passenger car 250 and as far as I know truck 250 takes 5 quarts total including filter. 292 pans I've seen are larger and deeper than 250 pans. Whether that means more than 5 quarts I don't know but it has to be at least 5. What does your dipstick show when you put 5 quarts in?

Not applicable to your original question: I run 4 to 4.5 quarts in my stroker with a stock 250 pan. Conveniently, my dipstick shows exactly full at 4.5 quarts with a 250 pan. I have no clue what my dipstick came from but suspect it was a 292.

My guess is a stock 292 should run 6 quarts but that is only a guess.

I think mine is 5 quarts plus one for the filter. I have a good memory, quite pristine...it is in fact in almost unused condition.

Most of the 292s came from the factory with 6 qts, some big trucks had 7 and to further complicate things five quart pans fit. I would go with the five quarts to start recommendation.
