hi, has anybody used one of the early water pump adapters to later 235 block, I'm putting a 235 into a 31 chev coupe and have the engine in now but need to move the fan up like the stock motor was, and the adapter I have seen on ebay looks like it would work ok, but wanted some input from abybody that has used one, thanks

I have them on three of my trucks,it's fairly easy to do, drill and tap a few holes in the block. You will have to pull the radiator and grille to do it properly.Just remember, the early pump is designed to run at about a 1.4 ratio, the pump spins faster than the crank. On two trucks, I used a Ford pump pulley from a 200 six cylinder to keep the pump speed correct when using the larger 235 type damper/pulley combo.
The trucks have no low speed cooling issues like with the low mounted short pump. And on the hiway the engines seem to run slightly cooler too.

Is the early 235 dampner smaller than the later dampner? and will it fit. this would solve the water pump speed problem and retain the stock looking early w/pump pulley. did you make the adapter? or buy it. thanks for the info,

The 216 has a smaller damper, not sure about early 235's. I bought the adapters from the guy before he was selling on Ebay. For the money he asks, it's really not worth cutting one out.And he is a true old Chevy guy.
