hi all.

Im in the planning stage for turbocharging my 81 G10 Chev van with a 250 in it, and am wondering if anyone has used/modded the original rochester 2se progressive 2bbl carb in a boost application. Im thinking a 4bbl will kill the fuel economy.
The van is a daily driver so economy is important, and it will tow a 4000lb trailer/car occasionally on the highway.
Planning 5psi boost with an intercooler.

Thanks

John

I've seen the 500cfm 2 bbl or 600cfm double pumper.

Thanks guys.

I was thinking about the holley 390, but most seem to be vacuum secondaries, and the mechanical ones don't appear to have chokes, which I need because I live in colder climate.

If your really after 250HP and better economy I'd suggest a engine swap to a Vortec 4200 inline 6 out of a trailblazer. The 88 up vans have TBI injection that can donate the EFI fuel tank/fuel lines/in tank pump. The 4L60e will bolt in using factory parts. You should see a 20 to 25% increase in economy over the 250. At $1.30/L it won't take long until your saving money.

You really ought to take a drive down to Summerland and have a look what the other local inliners have done. It may be the best 3 hours you spend on this project. By the way there is an active Inliner's chapter in the Valley.

The 4200 is 275 hp stock without the hassle of the turbo.

http://www.blackopel.com will give you the contact numbers to call.

Im not actually looking for a specific hp amount, "250" as in 250 ci engine. Whatever I get, I get, but considering the van gets driven mostly around town, I was wondering if the rochester's performance could just be enhanced, because that would be fine.
As for a tranny, it has a th350c so so i do have 4 forward speeds and it cruises nicely at 90-100km/h,and Im actually dropping it off next week for a full rebuild. I'm happy with it, and a $85 dollar fill up lasts twice as long as my Powerstroke, and its the original 1981 engine. Awesome.
I am more and more leaning towards going with dynamicefi's programmable TBI mod for this project as Im thinking it would be way easier to tune than messing around with carbs.

Big thanks for the Valley inliners info, I had no clue there was any active interest here.
