I would like to install a 292 inline 6 in my 46 1/2 ton chevy pickup and would like to get some input on the instillation and what would be a good automatic transmission and gear ratio for a rear axle. I will be driving mostly on freeways and in local mountains. I will not be pulling a trailer. I have a 216 in the truck now and have found a complete and new rebuild 292 for $700 which I think is a good deal. Truck is down to bear frame.

I think if it were mine I'd use a 700R4 and a 3.55to1 rear end. Plenty of power for the mountains and an easy 70 +mph on the freeway. You could probably even go with a 3.27 or 3.08 rear gear. Think about some modern brakes.
