Is the power steering pump installed on the top left side or the bottom left side of a chevy 292 engine? I want to install power steering in my truck and would rather have the pump on the bottom and the alternator on the top of engine if possible. I do under stand that finding the brackets won't be easy to find. By way I am installing the 292 engine in my 46 1/2 ton chevy truck that I am doing a resto-mod on.

Go on Ebay and look up brackets for 292,s made by Davis Speed Equipment. They make them for both upper and lower applications but only mounted on the drivers side. You can get them for both type 1 and 2 style pumps. I am going with my pump mounted up high and Alt. tucked down low.

What is the difference between type 1 and 2 pumps. What is the advantage of having it on the top rather than on the bottom or is it just for appearance.
