I found a 292 long block at a friends garage and he said I can take it for free, (he's a Ford guy.)

My questions is, can I use the water pump, alternator brackets, intake/ehaust manifolds, thermostat housing, fuel pump, distributor, balancer, flywheel, clutch, valve cover, and starter from my 250 on this engine or does the 292 have it own unique parts.

Thanx in advance

the parts will inner change yes. BUT water pump is designed for the 292 Balancer again designed for the 292 Flywheel Only if they had the 7/16 bolts. Most run a 1/2in. bolt so NO IT WILL NOT WORK. & clutch maybe Bigger (meaning running a bigger size clutch as well as a larger fylwheel and the starters may not ? match up)Fuel pump?? not 100% on that 1 so I can't say But I do believe they are the same??. as for the Rest Yes. And the Brackets may also differ some in size/length. hope this helps.

hello.... nice comment Twisted.. let me add this...the 250 and 292 fuel pumps are the same.... and yes 250 and 292 water pumps are different- but you can BOLT a 250 water pump to a 292, just dont-cooling and engine performance and engine life will suffer....and as mentioned, flywheels are different, not just bolt pattern but thickness of flywheel- i found this out when i stacked a 250 flywheel on a 292 flywheel last summer, interesting huh-seems a 292 needs/wants more weight for torque-initial take off vs 250 flywheel weight..... here in Tennessee you can buy a new 292 flywheel from Autozone for less than $200.00(6 1/2" bolts and 3 dowel holes).....

Hey Lee any idea what the weight difference mit be on the stock flywheels between the two.As you know I don't And can't run stock flywheels no matter what. Because what I run for a clutch disk.(they'd eat up a stock flywheel) again fuel pumps I realy wasn't sure as I run a Elec. pump. And i forgot about the cooling issue, But i knew the pumps were different. As too aren't the lowwer thermo houseings? didn't one or the other have a bypass?? or is that the other differnce on the water pumps? thank you }[oooooo]
