Wondering if anyone has used a diesel truck or late model car turbo on an inline engine. Wanting to put boost to my Packard but I don't want to spend the $$$ on a custom set up. I have seen it done on late model V8s just wondering if it can be made to work on my old flat head.

Or you could run two smaller turbos 1 per 4 cylinders would be ery different amd you would need less psi out of each

It is a flat head L8 so I can only push so much air through it. I would think truck (diesel) for the operating RPM being somewhat similar (around 4500 rpm)but without the volume of exhaust of a 7.4 diesel, on the flip side smaller car engine with a turbo I don't have the RPM but should with a 327 have a decent volume of exhaust to spin the turbo so which is better?

Thats why i was thinking two small ones it would take less to spool each over neding a lot of exhaust to spool one big one You can always mess around with exhaust housings

Or just go supercharged ;\) except you can't run that hot air through an intercooler with out some nifty work

I considered running one of those GM V6 superchargers and intercooling it and make some kind of blow through carb set up use the supercharger like a Paxton. I like the turbo idea better though. I don't want to lose the (little bit of) power to turn it and I don't want to stress the end of my crank and take a chance on braking it, even if it is a small chance. Can you "stage" turbos like small one blowing into a big one or put them in series and have the little guy spool up and have the big one take over in the higher RPM range? Ebay tell me diesel truck turbos or import car turbos are they cheapest way to go I just don't want to have 6 of them on the engine or one big one i can never spool up enough to get boost

The problem woth running a small one into a big one is the exhaust restriction at the small one i would imagine running one bigger one would suffice you jist need to read a turbo map and see what inducer and exducer and a good exhaust housin size to pick

Found this on the Garrett site. Put my info in it and came up with some turbo options. Thought it might be helpful for anyone looking to get an idea on a turbo.

That one posted is from a 301 V-8. you can upgrade & install bigger turbine & compressor wheels.

Hard to type, had rotator cuff surgery. Plus the meds the last few days makes me not see things so clearly. Sorry for any incorrect inputs/responses.

You would need to supply a core for those prices.
