I have reviewed all posts Engines and visited all sites listed on I.I. site. Gathered the following info. Still have some blanks and would appreciate any help.

Stamped on machined surface aft the distributor is F0330FAJ meaning Flint, month 3, day 30, and the FAJ is vehicle and power train options but I do not know the meaning of the code letters.

C24 CON2 GM41LG C24 I know CON2 is conveyor 2 but do not know what any of the rest is.

473483 Means 1975-1985, 2bbl integral head. Can exact year be determined?

The crank I.D. is 360470

D, N, and T arranged in a circle with a pointer pointing at N. Night Shift? What would T be?

Another circle consisting of dots and the number 8. pointer is pointing at 8. Any ideas?

3483 12 Any ideas?

I have the block done. Used a kit. Stock except 40 over bore. Crank only needed polish. Have 230 and 250 non integral heads, any difference? Need to store it for a while. By myself, need to keep it on the stand. Lube and wrap in Saran Wrap?

Thanks in advance for the help. Ray

Hi Ray;

I'm brand new around here (first post) but i'll try to help as this is the very info i was seeking myself....

And here is what i found out........

The stampings on the distributor surface.......
I think you are correct there about where it was cast and when, i too drew a blank on the code but it refers to compression ratio and accessories.

Con 2 is indeed conveyor 2 the date should be next eg: as shown on one i have here... "C124" means March 12 1984, i think 1984 because it has the later type "coil on cap" HEI distributor.

You are correct with the meaning of 473483 and yes, the year can be determined as i have shown above......

The 2 diget number below 473483 and "GM", in my case the numeral "11" indicates the casting number.

I dont know what the crank # means other than a serial # maybe?
Do you have the 12 counterweight crank? apparently it is the latest/best??

The little clock symbol indicates the "shift and time"

3483? where is that number on your block? it looks like it could be the month and year #... are you certain the first symbol is a 3 and not a letter?

eg: A=Jan, B=February and so on.........

Not sure about the heads question........

Saran wrap sounds like it may trap moisture but i really don't know...maybe toss in a bag of "silica gel" to absorb moisture....

Like will Rogers said "all i know i read in the newspapers"
but i hope this helps out a bit........

I have a number of questions of my own which i'll be asking the good folks around here to answer...... \:\)

Best Regards;
Dave

Your info is a big help. I appreciate your reply. The 3483 is just out on the block all by itself, but notice that it is the last four digits of 473483. I transposed the last two digits of the crank number, it should read 360407 instead of 70. That number ID's the crank used in that block, as nearly as I can determine. 1984 matches up with what I was told when I bougbt the engine. Came out of a '80's model PU. Thanks again and welcome aboard. You ought to think about paying dues. The 12 port news is worth more than the dues! You'll wind up reading every word of it. Ray
