Hi Folks. I've been an inliner for a few years now but never had a reason to post anything. Till now. Since I got my '54 First series 1/2 ton I've wanted to swap in a 292. I've been discouraged from doing so due to the length of the engine. Then I ran across a video of a guy dropping a 292 into his '54. Yes! So I found one. His solution was to use a '65 bell housing from a truck that moved the engine back enough to avoid moving the radiator support. According to him the bell housing bolted right up to the stock cross member. Any numbers on that bell housing are unknown to me but if any of you know what he is talking about, please let me know. One other issue I'm facing is the difference in motor mounts. Any info on that would be appreciated. Finally, I like to replace the stump puller tranny with something more freeway friendly, a four or five speed or an automatic with overdrive. Your thoughts? If you haven't guessed by now, I'm a rookie when it comes to Chevy 6s. The last truck I spent any time with was a '61 Chevy with a 283. Prior to that a '37 Ford with a flat head. So I'm as rusty as an exhaust manifold nut.

Too soon old. Too late smart.
