This car was parked in 1948 because of a broken ring-gear carrier. It has been two doors down the road for 30 years. The new owner has removed it from its resting place and taken it to the Piston Power show in Cleveland.

The Hudson Greater Eight was a rare car when new. This body style on this wheel base was built in very small numbers, only a handful have survived.








The interior has received an extensive treatment with a shop-vac since these photos were taken:








The engine is a monstrous flathead with an external side-shaft connected to the crankshaft via a gear. It drives the ignition timing chain and the generator mounted back by the firewall. While there is an opening in the grill for hand cranking, this car came equipped with an electric starter.







I never met Fred, he passed away before we moved into the neighborhood. He bought this car when he was in the service, and he and Elsie drove it to upstate New York for their honeymoon. Never heard the story until both were gone.
