Sleepin' -- an Edelbrock replacement part will work on your Carter 9635. I think the choke links are all the same in the AFB series. I ran a 9635 on my 454 V8-powered '67 Suburban. Good carbs. The port you circled is the EGR connection. Looks a lot like a second fuel inlet, but it's not. Since I didn't have an EGR, I just capped it off with a 3/8" rubber plug. The other port (~1/4") at 10 O' clock in your pic might be a vacuum connection -- not sure. One guess would be to feed the vacuum modulator on a TH 350 auto tranny -- but again I'm not too sure.
Part number for the accelerator pump is EDL-1470. I'm guessing, since that's the one listed for the 1400, -03, -04, -05, -06 carbs of 500 and 600 CFM respectively. The other accel pumps are for the 1407, -11 [@750 CFM] and the 1412, -13 [@ 800 CFM]. Maybe more is better -- I couldn't say. Save your old Carter accelerator pump piston rod if it's brass, the EDL ersatz will be white nylon and it bends.
No clue as to throttle wear.
If I'm not mistaken, the EDL 1400 is the Carter 9635 in a shiny box. [EDIT-- Edelbrock rates the 1400 @ 600 CFM, but it does have the EGR stuff.]
