I’m getting ready to put a 235 into my 1949 Chev, and one of the parts I want to find is the front motor-mount plate so I don’t have to pull the one off the 216 that is in the car now. When I bought the 235 it came professionally mounted on a pallet, and last night I took a close look at the front of the engine, and I think it has an early 216 mount already on it.
The best I can tell, looking at the 216 mount in the car, is that they are the same…except that the holes for the 1949 mount have not been drilled.
I’ll describe it the best I can: looking at the mounting plate from the front, the ’49 mounts attach to 2 ‘flats’ sloped up at about 15 degrees. These ‘flats’ are present, but have no mounting holes. The only holes in the plate are on the horizontal flat under the crank.
Is this an early mount? It looks like all I have to do is drill 2 holes in the sloped ‘flats’ and I’m ready to go....this sounds too easy
