Building a 65 GMC short wheel base with step bed, and plan on running the 250 originally. Picked up a engine and found it was the 194, this engine is fresh with a 30 thousants overbore and has been sitting for a while, so I want to reseal it. Found the balancer was welded to the crank and there is not any threaded hole to secure the balancer to the crank (guess this is common). Can I remove the weld(Sloppy) and chuck the crank in my lathe and drill and tap a hole th put a bolt in with the thick washer like the V/8 or replace the crank and if replacment is necessary what crank, can it be turned into a 230??? The truck has 3:54 gears and running a T-5, will it have enough stuff to utilize the overdrive. I hate to give up on this motor being just rebuilt. I still plan on building the 230/250 but am also getting anxious to drive the 65.
