Hello all,
I recently purchased a running 59 235 engine for my 56 wagon. Upon cleaning all the dirt and crud off I noticed that it had the side engine mounting points as on my 52 Fleetline.
I was led to believe that if i wanted to keep my stock style mounts and run an insert bearing motor I needed to find a 53 powerglide or a 54 engine. Is it rare to find the 56-62 engines with the side mounts? If so I may save this engine for my 52 and let the 56 rest awhile longer. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Dawger

Dear Dawger;

It will work just fine.

A 59 235" engine has all you need for your
56 wagon and will bolt right in.

Good luck, John M., #3370.

While the 58-62 blocks were sidemounters, the mount is not in the same position as on the 52-54. Get out your tapemeasure and see. The 55-62 motors can still be used in 49-54 cars, but you will need to change your front mount, and the water pump will need to be shortened. I would try mounting it like a 49-51 (under the timing cover) or getting a pair of those "biscuit" type mounts like you see in streetrod catalogs (for V8's) and use those.

55 to 57 passenger cars and 55 to 59 trucks with 235 and 261 engines have motor mount bosses at the front of the block on the side.Some 58 to 62 passenger cars will also have the 55 to 57 mounting bosses and some won't and the bosses may or may not be drilled and tapped for bolts.All 58 to 62 truck engines have 58 to 62 passenger motor mount bosses and may or may not be drilled and tapped for bolts.I have been in the wrecking yard trade for 35 years and have owned more 235s than i can remember.I have blocks that have no codes stamped next to the distributor.I have a 58 truck block that has the captains bars cast on the block like 235 Corvette engines and 261 engines have.It also has a shift clock cast on the side of the block.This is the only early Chevy six that i have seen with one.

PS--52 to 54 motor mount bosses are two bolts on the top and one the bottom.
58 to 62 motor mount bosses are one bolt on the top and two on the bottom. This is for passenger cars including Canadian Pontiacs with 261 Chevy(Stratto Six) engines.

I looked again The passenger side looks the same But the drivers side is definatly different.It looks like it's going in the 56 and the 52 will have to wait till I find a 54 motor. Or possibly Ill rebuild the 56 motor and use the early mount (my crossmember allready has the holes)\
Thanks again Dawger
