Looking for a bit of advice. I found what I believe to be a 261 in an old Pontiac at the auto wrecker today (will confirm tomorrow). The cost is $150 if I pull it out. I am sure it has the 848 head which is typical for Pontiac's with a 261 in Canada.
The engine looks fairly rough but appears mostly complete (missing water pump). Are these blocks usually ok to rebuild? I am going to buy the head regardless and for $150 think I should take a chance on the whole engine. Any thoughts?
