Anyone here with any hot rodding experience with the F-head? I am building one for my 51 Willys Watermelon Wagon, So far I have gone with a Clifford Header, A Weber 2 BBL, and a Pertronix Ignition, along with a lttle port work on the head and block. I'd like to find a cam. if possible. I know they use these motors for swamp buggy racing in south florida, but can not find any info on them. Thanks Murfman

I don't have any F-head experience, but if it turns out that there are no cam's out there. You can have your stock cam reground to a profile that you want, some shops that grind cams do it for less than the price of a new one.

Murfman, there's a cam-grinder in georgia who can grind you a cam to do anything you want. his computer will do anything the big boy's can do. he used to work for Reed cams, but has gone into business for himself. he reground and rehardened a cam for the mercruiser engine in my Model A, for only $75. and i'm well pleased with it.

his name is steve demos. call him at his shop in Jefferson, Ga. ph 706-340-6914

you probably know that F-head 134 won't stay together at high RPM. you'll want a low-rpm, high torque set-up for dependability. look at those skinny rods...they ain't made for screaming!

Lord, let me live long enough to do all the projects I have planned!

I had an F head in my Jeep(1961.) I had the head milled .060" which made a tremendous difference. High comp/ pistons were factory avail(7.4:1) I believe. I took good care of the engine, didn't over rev. it, however, it still went through valves pretty fast. Put in a Chevy II four banger(90HP) and they had to move me up a class with the 6 cyl. engines. Anyway, if you are up for a great 4 banger, that would work well. Pontiac Iron Duke and others are available now. If you are in love with that engine, they made a 6 cyl in Willys cars that would give you more power and maybe greater longevity.

I want to keep the F-head, just want to get a little more out of it, The block has been decked .010 and the head .020, with the carb and header, I'm hoping for 80 to 90 HP!!!

Should have stated that its bored .030 over, I polshed the parting lines on the rods smooth and the rotating assy. was indeed balanced. I mocked it up on the engine stand today, Its lookin pretty sweet, I'll get some pictures soon.
