The T5, by virtue of the overdrive 5th gear, would be a nice improvement for highway cruising. Off-the-line performance will depend on the internal gearing of of the transmission, especially low gear - some of the S-10 T5's had a pretty steep 1st gear that wouldn't be much good with a 4.11 rear. None of the truck trannies are considered to be close ratio, you would need a Camaro T5 for that.
