This engine was in the Studebaker Champion and half-ton pickups from 1939 to (i believe) 1956. In the day there was speed equipment available for it, and i think that you can still buy a new Offenhauser intake for it; see
http://www.exeterautosupply.com/Docs/Offenhauser%20catalog.pdf In the early 1990s i remember seeing some articles with picture of open-wheel "midget" racers powered by this engine. Hot Rod Magazine published at least one feature on it in the early 1950s, along with pictures and details of Studebaker-powered dry lakes and Bonneville racers running in the small-displacement classes.
