I've heard a lot of good things about the Ford 300 motor but my experience with one was in a 90's 1/2 ton 4x4 PU. It was OK but I recall a stock 230 in my parents 63 chevy 3/4 ton PU that seemed like a screamer in comparison.
Are there better years of the 300? Did Ford use them in 3/4 ton 4x4 pickups? For fuel mileage would they be a better choice than an 8?
