1st things, glad I found this board. I have an 1984 chevy truck 1/2 ton. From what I have been reading this is the last yr chevy put in an inline six. After 120,000 miles the old 250 quit on me (distributor rotor not turning). Anyways till I can find out why, Can I drop a 250 from a 67 Nova in its place. Everything looks good, motor mounts same place, need to add a few things, but It shoudn't have changed that much. Maybe I might even get more horsepwr. Let me know what you think, and thanks.

Before swapping motors, check the distributor gear (easy) or the timing gears ( a bit of a pain). If the motor still has the original timing gears it is highly probable the fibre cam gear stripped. Buy a new set of metal gears, have the cam gear pressed on and you are back in business.

As far as swapping in the early 250, you will notice the cylinder head, manifolds and etc are very different. You will as a minimum, need to modify your exhaust and throttle linkage. There may be some other issues depending on if you need to pass smog checks.

Good luck either way you go.

Yes I am sure it is the fiber cam, on way the distributor stopped. On the older 250, I was hoping to swap manifolds to line up exhaust and newer carb. I have the older motor, and I think it will be faster than opening up timing gears. But maybe I am opening up another can of worms this way.

The oil pan will need changing and Dip stick would need to be relocated. The Nove/chevy2 Motor Oil pans will not clear the truck crossmember. Hope this helps }[oooooo]
