That's a sweet piece. It's a shame it's nearly invisible once installed. How much did it cost and did you get any more goodies from him?

My understanding is that the mold needs to be approximately 10% bigger than the pc. to allow for shrinkage. I don't think a sample pc. will work to make copies of cast parts.
