My '68 4x4 suburban has a "7 cylinder" 307 cu in engine in it. I have a 250 sitting around (casting # 377127 with flexplate), and wondered if anyone has replaced the 307 V8 with the 250 inline. The vehicle is a 3/4 ton with an sm465. I would also be interested in swapping to a 5 spd.
If anyone can steer me to a previous post, feel free.

You may no dout need to find a doner truck that had a L6 in it for the frame mounts at the very least or fab up your own mounts.Tranny will bolt up.

Dear John;

A "valve job" would be a quick fix and not to much time/money.

Then; you could look for another/beter home for that 250 engine.

Those 'conversions' usually depreciate the vehicle beyond recovery and take a lot of time too.

Good luck. \:\)

The engine is fouling plugs too. I have put about 8 thousand miles on it and 2 sets of plugs. The bad cylinder reads 80 psi. I think I did the oil trick, and did not get an increase in compresssion. It has a unique history: ex usaf, then to a school "bus barn" as their "snow command" vehicle (in the antelope valley desert) The usaf left a "shark fin" aircraft antenna and a commo antenna base on the roof, and the school district added another one. Somewhere along the way, it got a 50 gallon gas tank installed. It had the "exempt" license when the school district sold it to me, so I must be the first private owner. The 12 mpg is what has me thinking "repower".
