1954 261 T5 390 gears--runs out of fuel at 2000 RPM. I have replaced fuel lines, second new fuel pump, new filters, cleaned the tank.

Runs fine at low speeds, but stalls and dies after picking up speed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
T.K.

Float level?
Piece of crud in the inlet for the fuel?
Does it have a metal type filter built in the carb? If so, remove that & run an inline fuel filter?

You can probably open up the seat area for the needle & seat,but take care & use a number drill bit set.

Tank not venting properly, incorrect gas cap,not vented???
Just to think of a few ideas.

Yep, When it stalls, get out and open the gas cap.
If it sucks a bunch of air in and you hear the tank pop back out that is the problem. Years ago I walked to town gas can in hand a couple of times before I figured that one out.
If that isn't it check for kinks in the fuel line and make sure that all of the brass fittings are the correct internal size. Once in a while you can get ahold of a fitting that has the correct threads/connection types but it has a very small orfice in the middle. That would be Idles fine, smooth low speeds fine, full throttle, falls on it's face when the float bowl runs dry.

Dear T.K.;

Try driving it with the cap loose/off, for a while. If (that word again) it still "runs out of gas", there's something rolling around in the tank. :rolleyes:

I found a golf ball in one, once. It drove us crazy for over a year.

Good luck. \:\)
