Even making one transmission out of two was so pricey that I stuck a 3 speed out of a truck back in and am going with a turbo 350. cheaper by far when you consider I need a clutch job anyway and the last one I did was a long way from being free! I have the dope on the flex plate but not on what has to be done to the crossmember. You out there Nova Man? Thanks in advance . Ray

Ray, what is your question and what kind of car. I put a TH350 behind a six in a 62 Nova. Maybe I can help

If you don't have the TH-350 yet, you might want to consider an overdrive model so you can run a little more rear gear and still have better economy. Take a look at this website for comparison of 200, 350,400,700 etc. If you can't find it, but are interested, let me know and I'll try to e-mail you a condensed version I did in MS Word.

Mine is a 76 two door Nova. I seem to remember that the mount had to be moved down on the crossmember, that is, cut from where it is now and moved down a little and welded back on. Thanks, Ray

to put a turbo 350 in it's best to get the short shaft 350 The front side of the crossmember may need to be notched. Only in some cases this needed to be done But for what ever reason not on all turbo 350s The drive shaft will be the same. What i mean by needeing Notched is the 62-67 Nova cross memebers the front lip is very close to the pan. Some i have done seemed to clear where as a few needed that lip taken off. And other AT tranny the drive shaft will need to be cut. As i said the short shaft is the same lenght as the power glide, Sag,Muncie and in most cases the front drive shaft yoke is the same But not on the turbo 400s some of them had the bigger yoke. Hope this helps.
Long shaft Turbo 350s on up the drive shaft will most likely need to be shortened.Hope this helps }[oooooo]

Larry is correct, get a short shaft trans you won't have to shorten the drive shaft. There is a crossmember availabe for the TH350 for 62-67 Nova's. The 76 Nova with auto's were equipt with TH350's. I will see what I can find out about the crossmember, I think it is the same. I got a long shaft and had to have the driveshaft cut.

My thanks to everyone who responded. I knew about the short and long tail on the 350's and mine is short. I had done a careful analyisis on the different auto tranny's some time ago and know I want to use a 350. I do not know anything at all about shift kits. It appears that some you must shift the tranny just as you would a straight gear. Have any of you used these kits and why and how did you like them? Thanks again for all the input. I have the use of a lift so I want to make this as in and out sort of a job as I can to avoid abusing the use of the lift. I expect to do the job within the next 4 to 6 weeks and will let you know how it comes out. Ray

Ray, according to my sources you should not have any problems with the crossmember on a 76 Nova no matter which tranny you use, they are all the same.

According to my sources the crossmember on a 76 Nova is the same for all transmissions.
