Inliners International Forums General Discussion Drive Train Chevy 250 flexplate ?

I have a 71 Chevy 250 six with a TH350 trans behind it. I currently have a 153 tooth(small)flex plate. I have to pull the trans and wanted to put a 168 tooth (large) flex plate on. Can anyone tell me if I can do this and what flexplate and starter to ask for? As far as I can tell there is no starter that will match the 250 block for a 168 flexplate.

Yes there is I run a 168 tooth flywheel in my 64 But i'm also running a 4speed But if the block does not have both holes for either starter then You woul dhave to drill it yourself. the 168 starter is a stagered bolt where as the 153 is bolted straight across Just swap noses and get a v8 flywheel Or buy a v8 starter if the block is drilled for the stager. hope this helps }[oooooo]

Thanks for the info Larry. Unfortunatley I have a block that only has the 2 holes drilled for the starter. I checked and and rechecked and checked again, I just can't make that other hole appear. The small flexplate has worked fine for me, I just wanted to a bigger one, well maybe next time.

You can use a mini starter from Jegs or Summit with the large flexplate. They all seem to have two sets of holes for the straight bolt pattern.
