If thsi is your first automatic that you are rebuilding - the 700R4 is not the best one to do. There are some specific tools needed that you really need to do this transmission namely seal protectors.
Even pro's hate dealing with the input shaft seals. They are a real pain in the @!#.
If you are bent on build one get a GM shop manual for an 88-92 camaro/vette/truck its hard to beat.
The aftermarket manual don't have the details in them - they asume too much.
