Actually I believe the 1.82 was a stronger planetary gear system, but I've used them both successfully with 650-700 hp.The 1.82 gears were in the transmissions that were made from 62-64( Coarse spline). I believe when Chevy went to the longer tailshaft in 65 they also changed to 1.76 low and fine spline yoke.Making the driveshaft longer or shorter( which ever is needed) might be cheaper than after market parts.Most of my racing in recent years has been 1/8 mile with occasional 1/4' mile passes butI can get several years of racing out of either combination before I even "fresh" them up. I think the quaility of the converter has more to do with How long they live. Just my 2-cents ---Paul
