Hi all~

clearance is kinda tight between legs and the original 16" wheel in my 65 nova. Anyone know if there's a smaller steering wheel in a chevy model from the same period that'll bolt on? maybe a corvair wheel? thanks for your help

The splines and shaft diameters are the same on GM cars right up to date with the possible exception of a few of the smaller front wheel drive cars. The wheels from a later model column with the ignition lock built in have the outer hub about 3/16" longer than yours on the Nova.
On many of these later wheels the bottom of the outer hub might rub the steel collar on top of the column unless you use a thin spacer for clearance or shave down the bottom of the wheel hub. You are only removing the very bottom of the outer edge and not removing any structual strength from the bottom of the wheel. The directional cam and horn plunger work fine with your earlier column. Test fit first. You may not have to alter the wheel you use.

Look for a wheel from a Chevette or an S-10 Blazer or pick up with the custom interior. Late Camaro and Firebirds are similar in style and size. These wheels are about 14 1/2 inches in diameter and have 2 or 3 wide flat spokes depending on the model. Both have a center horn button. I run a Chevette wheel on my 37 Chevy with manual rack & pinion steering and haven't ever wished it had power steering. With everyone using ugly billet wheels, you can find stock GM wheels at every swap meet for cheap money.
