Inliners International Forums General Discussion Drive Train Jumping out of 3rd.

I,m having a problem with my 3 speed jumping out of 3rd. gear here lately. I noticed it while on the road yesterday going to the beach. I had to hold the shifter down by hand to get her home. Need a little help here Inliners.Thanks

What kind of car is this in?--Back in the early 1970s,I drove my 56 Chevy from Napa California to Hollywood while pulling a trailer.It kept jumping out of gear the whole trip.By the time I got to LA,it would no longer stay in gear.I had to take a bus back to Napa.I worked in a wrecking yard then also and had to build a tranny from scratch because we had no good ones left at the yard.Took the tranny back to LA and installed it,and then drove my 56 back to Napa.

As I recall you have a Chevy driveline etc.

In that case; You probably have a syncro drum going bad, but check the rear (L side) engine/trans mount(s) first.

And have a look at the bellhousing/engine bolts as well... any misalignment between the engine and box will cause this.
