your rear end ratio is to high for the OD ratio you probably have. my guess is .73. multiply that times 3.36 & you get a 2.45 (!) final drive ratio. kinda like double overdrive & it's lugging your engine down. if you want to stick with those rear gears the 4 speed probably would have been a better choice.
