Newbie here!
I have a '52 chev coupe and I am ready to swap in a 250 but would like to keep the torque tube rear and run an automatic trans. Does anyone know of a trans (or solution) to adapt the 250 to the torque tube?

Its not easy to do a 250 swap and keep the torque tube(but anything is possible) The easiest way to keep the torque tube is to swap a later 235 or 261 or modify the babbit beater to inserts and full pressure. patricks has the saginaw 4 speed conversion that gives a stronger more modern trans. and keeps the torque tube. that is my intent with my 52 also

Hi,New to this site and full of questions.I'm in the process of rebuilding my 52 chevy pickup.I have a friend that is giving me a 1955 235 to put back in and he is going to help with the rebuild.I want to be old school here.This is my plans:Stock apperance,235? w/saginall 4spd,3:55 rears,stock inclosed driveshaft, new lowering springs,front disc brakes,15" wheels (red)w/wide whitewalls. My questions for now:what kind of hp and how fast will it go and what is cruise speed for this set up, And what year 15" rims will fit?Sorry for the book.All advice,suggestions,etc greatley appreciated;Thanks,Larry

No, sorry.

You need to change the rear end to 'open drive' as the iron Powerglide won't fit the 250 engine.

I'm stuck with a 51 because of the same situation etc.

Larry;

Patrick's is the place for all that info and parts for your pick up.

Good luck. \:\)

If you use a V8 mounting plate for the cast iron PG it will. They used the cast iron PG up thru at least '61 with the sixes and V8s both. Joe

Good tip Joe!! \:\) \:\) Thanks.

Ed;

That's exactly what you need to do the job on yours.

I was thinking of a later PG to a 235/261 for mine. Different 'ball game'.

Good luck. \:\)
