Getting ready to convert my 55 1st to a 700R4 transmission. Engine is a 261 utilizing the stock accelerator rod. Anyone have experience in adapting a tv cable to this type of setup?

i have done 700r4's on mine but it is not your vintage motor. here are some tips. imagine the tv cable coming in from the right side at 3 oclock position. your throttle moves in the counter clockwise motion. the attaching point should be at about 1.25 inch from the carb center shaft. put the attach point at the 2 oclock position. when throttle is fully open the cable should be at about the 9 oclock position and not be able to pull another smidge. it will be very tight. alot of aftermarket cables use a ratching device to help get it adjusted. i got one from B&M tranny's. i hope this helps some. tom
