I posted several months ago about the way to find that old time sound for my 230 1966 Chevy. RapRap suggested some chambered mufflers from a corvette. I bought them back then, but just got them, and the duals installed at a Midas shop today. When the guy called to say it was done, he said ummmmmm...I hope you were wanting this thing to be loud!!HaHa It sounds awesome!! If you stay out of it is nice and quiet(neighbors like this), but you can really make that thing rap!!! Thanks RapRap

Do I know Inliners or what!
Anyone who has heard my '40 knows that is the "signature" sound of an Inliner. I'm glad you like and the more you drive it, the better you'll know the range of sweet music.
It's really the best value for the $$. They are not very expensive and will never burn out, or change tone. For added resonance, I added 5 1/2" exhaust tips that lower the bass and amplify the volume.

Hey guys,,, some more questions I,ve been looking for direction on my exuast,,, are the chambered mufflers, the one that look like glasspacks but have crimps dwn them,, Summit is selling them pretty decintly,,,, also the local shops here,, are wanting to go dual into one muffler into one pipe,, this car is a chevyII with split irons from Tom,, clifford single four,,head and block mods,,,, I want a good sound but dont know what,, I,m to used to v-things, I did though have the chambereds I discribed on a v8 pinto It was awesome,,,, also this is a cruiser car,, so not to loud,,, thanks for helpin,,

You are correct in assuming that the Chambered Mufflers look like a glasspack but if you look inside, there is nothing in there. They are crimped to baffle the exhaust. If driven with a soft foot, they can be mellow, but as soon as you put your foot in it, they "open up" like they are suppose to. You do get an advantage with chambered mufflers as your flow restriction is low which means more torque and HP! I think it's money well spent if you're looking for power and that nostalgic sound.

I too am looking for a muffler for my exhaust system, and it sounds like the chambered mufflers are what I want. Can you give me more specifics as to what I should purchase? Thanks.

Hi Chief-

Here's what to do. Call Mid America Designs who deals in Corvettes. They do not advertise the item, but ask for the Chambered Mufflers only, no exhaust system.
I believe they come in a couple of lengths,
18" or 24". I used the 18" length and they are 3" in diameter with a 2-1/2" inlet and outlet. If I remember, they were approx. $29.00@. Here's the number 800-500-8388.

Hey guys,,, Summit chambereds come in 24" and 36",, they are stainless steel, and come natural or polished,,2 1/2"i/o & 3" i/o, but pricey, 120.00(nat),,140.00(pol), they say, stainless body, core and packing material,, dont know if thats worth it not to rust,, ,
Rap Rap,, are you saying that a setup is with two muff, and pipes to the rear, is there any thought of not enough back pressure,, and what about thoughts on crossover pipe, or is it not neccesary becuase of the sixes firing order reference, and the pulses are already equalized,,,,?

Summit pipes sound pretty expensive. No need for stainless as there is nothing inside to burn out! True Chambered mufflers have nothing inside it's just a crimped tube.

I use a split Stovebolt header with 2 1/2" pipes and two chambered mufflers with a 5 1/2"x18" tips. I have great back pressure and full power and exhaust note! No need for a cross over pipe, it would just queit the sound.
