Inliners International Forums General Discussion Drive Train Soleinoid on 3-speed over drive

I have a 3-speed overdrive trans,now I put the soleinoid in a vise to see if it worked, with 6 volts. My question is that if you put 6 volts to the soleinoid, will it engage by itself? Because for it to engage, I have to help it along. Please help
