hi

i might beable to get my hands on a 250 out of a chevelle and i would plan on putting it in my 63 nova. it is my understanding that the dipstick for the oil pan is in another location. if so should this be changed and if so how? thanks

Yes, the Chevy II sump is near the middle, not in the rear of the engine as in most cars and trucks. This makes for a different dipstick location further forward on the block and a different oil pickup. I did the same swap you're planning; a truck 250 in my '67 Chevy II. I fretted over it for a while and finally drilled a 3/8" hole in the block at the proper location. Was not a big deal, did it with a sharp bit and a battery drill. If you need the location clarified I could probably e-mail a picture of my car's original 194.
This all depends on how important original appearance is to you. I've been told the rear sump pan will work on a deuce, but comes close to the steering linkage. Never tried it myself.
