hi,
I recently recieved a 250 chevy out of a 68 chevelle for free. i wasa planning to rebuild it and have it be a hot street engine. well i started to dissasemble it soi could get the machine work done and i noticed that the engine has been rebuilt very recently. when i took the head off the pistons are flat top w/ 4 valve reliefs. i know that the stock pistons are dished so what will this do to compression if i keep them and is there a was to tell if they are cast or forged. thanks any info would be great

Well keeping those pistons will up you compressin some. it would bring you up around 10.1 which will be just fine on some good pump gas. No real need for race fuels. now as for cast or being forged if there are and numbers on these pistons you can use them to tell one way or another. Or your machines shop should be able to tell you. Or you could have them weighed, Most newer forgings are pretty light now a days. Hope this helps. }[oooooo]
