Hi guys-
Most of you have seen the set up on my car in "Reader's Rides" and yes, the 270 wolverine cam, huge new Stovebolt headers, and tri-power do make a difference.
A couple of months ago, I was at the Back to the 50's show and i was luckily leaving the pMotel parking lot when I heard a loud rattleing sound coming from under the hood. I had broken a rocker arm on the 4th cylinder. I have never seen one snap like that before so I got on the phone and finally found one across town at Napa. I replaced and it drove perfect. Note: how do you re-torque a rocker arm in the parking lot 350 mile from home? You count the 1/4 turns with ratchet off, and re-yorque the same. Once it's running again, you can adjust it to get rid of the clicking. It took 15 1/4 turns by the way. When I returned home, i ordered new CompCams lifter to make sure they were all new and matched. The motor was a crate remanufactured unit and I wasn't sure what quality rockers were put in. Most likely, cheap! I wanted to go to Roller rockers, but they did not have the bolt on type for my 292 without using the screw in studs and roller assembly. I was tols by a machine shop that roller rockers are only give a slight advantage when used by themselves. When used in conjuction with ROLLER LIFTERS, they add a significant advantage in less friction and HP gain. Is this true? The guy could have easily have hard sold me the roller rockers without the lifters but said on the street, roller rockers by themselves do not add much and the stock stamped ones actually work very well.
Any thoughts on this?
